Elk Grove businesses step up to support Bahamian youth home in advance of Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl

Nearly $50,000 in supplies donated as part of Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl Charitable Initiative
Seven Elk Grove Village-based companies have donated nearly $50,000 in much-needed supplies to a youth home in the Bahamas as part of a Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl Charitable Initiative coordinated by Elk Grove Village.

Ranfurly Homes for Children, an organization in Nassau, Bahamas, provides a home for children who are displaced as a result of family problems, who have been abandoned, who are orphaned or whose primary caregivers are deceased.

This fall, Elk Grove Village officials reached out to local businesses and asked for their generosity in donating materials.  The businesses responded in kind, providing nearly $50,000 worth of building materials and supplies, including tile, doors, appliances, and other items that Ranfurly Homes will use to keep their facilities operating smoothly and safely.

Ashland Door Solutions, a full- service provider and installer of commercial-grade doors, frames and hardware that services the entire Chicago area, contributed lock systems and a pallet of doors to the home, which requested all kinds of materials including doors, locks and other building maintenance supplies.

"Ashland Door Solutions was proud to donate doors and locks to the Ranfurly Home in the Bahamas relief effort organized by Elk Grove Village.  This type of initiative helps us to provide tangible support to those affected by the hurricane; but also shows the strong community values of EGV.” said Denise Boyd, Vice President of Operations for Ashland Doors. “We feel extremely fortunate to be able to contribute usable building materials to this worthy, charitable cause; and we appreciate the hard work that the Village put in making this effort a success."

The donated materials are on their way to Nassau in advance of the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl on December 20.  Mayor Johnson plans to join other Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl participants on a visit the Ranfurly Homes in Nassau during bowl week.

“Elk Grove Village has built an international reputation for being an exceptional community, and it's thanks in large part to our businesses whose products and services have a global impact each and every day.  The businesses that have contributed to this effort are definitely having an impact on the lives of Ranfurly Homes children,” said Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson.  “We’re proud to play a role in supporting Ranfruly Homes and showing the Bahamas what it means to be Beyond Business Friendly.”

In addition to Ashland Door Solutions’ donation, other businesses making contributions include:

Anderson Lock

EM-Metal Fabricator

MG Bros Construction Inc.
